Small hotel planned for Kilcullen?

Rumours have surfaced about a small hotel to be opened in Kilcullen.

A spokesman for the developer, through Kilcullen Community Action, said it was hoped to have the operation up and running quite soon.

“Apparently it will be quite small,” Ray Kelly, chairman of KCA, told the Diary.

Kilcullen hasn’t had a hotel since the 1930s/40s, when the predecessor business to The Hideout was Byrne’s Hotel. Prior to that, Bardon’s Hotel was the main such hostelry in the town, and was a key overnight facility for coach passengers who wanted to break their journey. It was also where racing drivers in the Gordon Bennett Race stayed.

We await developments, and hope it won’t mean a crawl through the planning process.
