Bombs from a neutral sky

A recollection of the WW2 bombing on the Curragh will be the theme of the February meeting of the Newbridge Local History Group on Wednesday night, writes Brian Byrne.

The illustrated talk by Liam Kenny will get under way at 8.30pm in the Sarsfields GAA Hall.

His contribution will be supported by Paul Cooke, Raphael Ryan and Oliver McCrossan.

It will mark the 75th anniversary of German bombs being dropped between Newbridge and the Curragh. Liam will talk about how the bombings were reported in the local and national newspapers, deal with the security context of the time, and the consequences of the bombing for neutral Ireland.
