Curragh Lawns celebrated Rio 2014

Curragh Lawns Nursing Home had a World Cup Beach Party to celebrate Nursing Homes Week and it was a huge success, writes Valerie Ryan from the home. All the residents, staff and visitors had a great day.

The event included a BBQ and all the staff wore their favourite World Cup teams' jerseys, everyone enjoyed cocktails and beers and thankfully it was a glorious day. People dressed up in funny sunglasses, flower leis and grass skirts!

Temperatures may even have surpassed Rio’s on the day everyone was thankful of the marquee, and of course the Mr Whippy van and 99s all round. John Kelly played music and sang in the heat for three hours straight! PJ Lydon assisted in backing vocals and Fr Harte also sang a few tunes!

Paddy O’Gorman from RTE came to speak to the residents and the story was covered the story on Newstalk.ie, Ian Dempsey’s Today FM show, Newstalk and KFM!

Around 150 people enjoyed the sun and the sand in the sand pits and blow up palm trees, sharks and paddling pools.

It was a wonderful day and really captured what Nursing Homes Week is all about — promoting positivity in Nursing Home Care.
