Castlemartin hosts Big Ride for Africa

A charity bike ride based in Castlemartin Stud in June will bring in hundreds of riders from all over Europe to help the Lessons for Life charity, writes Brian Byrne.

It's the second Big Ride for Africa, which inaugurated last year in Cologne, Germany.

The participants will be hosted in a bespoke camp on the Castlemartin Stud grounds, and undertake 1- or 2-day 'challenges', some of which will include walking, running, and marathon.

Virgin Media in Ireland, owned by the owner of Castlemartin Stud, John Malone, is the in-country host sponsor for the event. Other sponsors include Accenture, Actavo, BNP Paribas, Ciena, Friends First, Shorts, and TV3.

The routes will be mainly through the Wicklow Mountains, with participants returning to Castlemartin for the evenings. The ride days are 20-21 June.

The charity Lessons for Life funds education projects across Africa.
