Local TD invites all to Brexit meeting

Deputy Martin Heydon and Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney.
A public meeting on the challenges facing the country because of Brexit will be held in The Heritage, Killenard, on Thursday 1 February, writes Brian Byrne.

Kildare South TD Martin Heydon is inviting everyone locally with an interest in the issue to the meeting, which will have a lineup of high quality speakers headed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Simon Coveney TD.

Other contributors will include MEP Mairead McGuinness, Damian McDonald, IFA, Kieran Finane of Finline Furniture and former Fine Gael Leader Alan Dukes.

“The end of phase 1 of Brexit negotiations in December secured commitments that we sought for Ireland," Deputy Heydon says. "However as we start 2018 and the next phase of negotiations on Brexit, the challenges for Irish businesses, agriculture and the common travel areas remain. This public meeting is an opportunity to hear the latest updates on the negotiations and the views from Europe. It will also allow people to have their say on the future we want after Brexit."

The meeting begins at 8pm.
