Dawn Walk for Pieta House on coming weekend

With more than 300 tickets already sold for next Saturday's 'Twilight Chorus' concert in the market square, the event is already set for a full house, writes Brian Byrne.

But Lorna Brophy and Richie Kelly and their fellow organising committee members in charge the Pieta House fundraiser are pushing really hard to establish a new record of people doing the Dawn Walk through New Abbey Stud on that morning.

There's pre-registration for that event in Kilcullen Town Hall on Friday night between 5-7pm, while those happy enough to wait until the pre-dawn can register at 3.30am in the square.

It's a real opportunity to start and finish a great day in support of a great cause. Following the concert, which features Liam O Maonlai as well as the Kilcullen Gospel Choir and the Newbridge Three Sopranos, there will be a barbecue and music in O'Connells Bar.

Last year, a cheque for €9,200 was given to Pieta House by the Kilcullen group from the Dawn Walk last summer, which had raised more money than the previous one even though numbers on the walk were down.

"We hope to have the numbers back up this year," Lorna told the Diary. "So we're urging people to come along for what everyone who has done the walk through New Abbey says is a wonderful experience."
