More Kavanagh bus cuts

JJ Kavanagh are dropping one morning service from Kilcullen to Dublin and two evening services from Dublin to Kilcullen, in what they describe on their website as a ‘significant enhancement’ of their service, writes Brian Byrne.

Announcing the changes with ‘delight’, the company says the alterations to the 717 service from and to Clonmel follow a review of the service and the feedback received from their ‘loyal customers’.

In detail, the 7.25am service to Dublin will now depart at 6.50am, and the 9.30am service to Dublin ceases from Tuesday next, 30 May. From Dublin, the 5.45pm from Ulster Bank will now leave at 6pm, and arrive in Kilcullen at 7.05pm. The 9pm and 11.30pm services from Dublin will no longer operate.

This leaves Kilcullen connections as follows: To Dublin 3.15am, 6.50am and 8.05pm. From Dublin Ulster Bank 6pm.

JJ Kavanagh’s previous timetable changes in 2014 substantially cut services through the town.

The Bus Eireann 130 service goes to Dublin at 7.05am, 7.55am and 9.35am, Monday to Saturday. Return from Connolly LUAS stop 1.15pm, Halfpenny Bridge 5pm and Busarus 5.55pm.

On the latest cuts, a local resident told the Diary that, apart from the trimming of the schedule, it will cost many people both time and more money because they will need to get a bus to and from Newbridge in order the get a bus or train connection from there.
