Bird Walk, Liffey Life, for Biodiversity Week

A Bird Walk will be held in Kilcullen on Tuesday 23 May as part of the local contribution to National Biodiversity Week 2017, writes Brian Byrne.

There will also be a return of the exploration of Life in the River Liffey on Saturday 20 May, conducted by Dr Jan Baars, local environmental expert and lecturer in UCD. Dr Baars has run a number of these events since the first during the Wild Weekend series organised by Kilcullen Community Action in 2012 to mark the publication of a major local biodiversity study.

Our picture is a collage from those Wild Weekends which were very successful.

National Biodiversity Week runs from 19-28 May, and so far there are up to 50 free family friendly events registered around the country.

It is all about connecting people with nature, communicating the importance of biodiversity and motivating people to play their part in protecting it. It’s also about entertaining them; showing the fun and wonder that can be found in nature; and inspiring people to learn more, see more, do more.

We'll post more details of the local events closer to the time.
