Opening of 'The Plough and the Stars'

Last night was the preview performance of The Plough and the Stars by Kilcullen Drama Group, writes Brian Byrne.

And it was 'house full' for the traditional presentation for Seniors from both Kilcullen and Dunlavin, the latter group who came in a bus to enjoy their night.

With 18 actors on stage in the Sean O'Casey classic set in Dublin's tenements around the time of the Easter Rising, the production is a major effort by cast, the extensive crew, and director Mischa Fekete.

Due to other commitments, the Diary could only stay for a part of the first act, but we were later told that this year's first presentation by the Drama Group is a real tour de force of historical drama with a generous leavening of humour.

Tonight is the official Gala Opening night, and the play runs through until Thursday of next week. We understand there are a few tickets left for some nights. (More photos here.)
