Badminton update

A very busy week for Kilcullen Badminton Club this week with our teams involved in eight games over a 5-day period in two competitions, writes Club PRO Enda O'Neill.

Firstly we will start with the South West Knockout Cup where two of our teams represented KBC. Lynsey Walsh and her Grade 1 Mix team played their Quarter Final against Portarlington in a great match. The KBC side came home with a fantastic 5-2 victory and will now face Johnswell in the Semi Final in what will be a tough test. Good luck to Lynsey and all the team.

Jennifer Monaghan and her team travelled to Rahan of Offaly in their Grade 4 Quarter Final match, a match which was a lot closer than the final score reflected. In an extremley tense match our Kilcullen warriors left the one-court hall at 1am with a great 5-2 triumph. Again well done to Jen, her team and good luck in their next fixture against the winners of Kilkenny and Bough in the Semi Final.

The Dublin District League group stages are drawing to a close and Olivier P Valroy and his Division 9 Mix have strenghted their position in the league with a fantastic 4-0 away victory to Danum. This is the second heavy defeat that Olivier's side have inflicted on Danum and now Kilcullen sit second in the table on 15 points with three wins out of the five matches. Olivier’s next challenge is an away fixture to Raheny, best of luck to Olivier, Maeve Valroy, Teresa McGlynn and Sean Mc Grath.

Ray Dalton and his Division 5 Mix A team suffered a 3-1 defeat on Wed 22 March when they visited a strong PBAI Mix 2 team. This leaves Ray and his team in second place with 10 points in the group, but PBAI also have 10 points but have two matches in hand. It's not looking good for Ray and his team, but they were drawn in an extremley difficult group. Hard luck to Ray and his team, Sarah Walshe, Bernie Smyth and season sub Vincent Coller.

Friday 24 March there were two matches played on home turf in the complex with Martin Carrigan and the Division 4 Men hosting a very young but well coached Titans. With one win, three draws and one defeat it will now go down to the last match against Roundwood for Martin and his team. If the lads can pull a win out of the bag they are sure to go through to the knock out stages of the league, best of luck to Martin, Owen Wallace, Mick Cass and Barry O’Neill in their final crucial match.

Tara O’Neill's Division 5 Mix B team had two fixtures this week both away, one to Sheriff Street and one to St Killians. The KBC Fab Four won both their matches 4-0 which leaves them with 16 points from 5 matches. With 1 match left to play againist bottom of the table Rathmore, Tara and the team can qualify to the knockout stages with a victory or a draw. Well done to Tara, Chelsey Cox, John Mullen and Vincent Coller on a great week.
Enda O’Neill and the Division 6 Mix played their last group match against Dunboyne, this fixture was played on Friday 24 March, also in the complex. It's been a successful league campaign for the team who have only lost one match in the group. The Division 6 team wanted to end the group stage on a high even though they had already qualified for the knock-out stages of the competition. In a one-sided match, Kilcullen beat Dunboyne 4-0 which put KBC top of the table on 27 points. This puts the pressure back on Viking to win their remaining fixture if they want to top the table. Well done to Enda, Kathrin Logan, Jennifier Monaghan and Barry “Geateen” O’Neill.
