Dublin District Cup and League action for KBC

Four of KBC’s teams competed in Dublin District Cup and League matches this week, writes Kilcullen Badminton Club PRO Enda O’Neill.

First out were the Division 5 Mix B team who hosted PBAI on Tuesday 1 November in the complex. The team had to draft in two more than able subs, Jennifier Monaghan and Siobhan Willis, as captain Tara O’Neill was away on holidays in Spain (as she keeps reminding us with sunny photos via her Facebook Page!) and Chelsey Cox was injured. Stand-in captain John Mullen was in charge and his team got off to a great start with Jen and Siobhan taking the ladies game 2-0. John and Vincent Coller then took centre stage against the PBAI men and continued with a fantastic 2-0 win leaving the Kilcullen team having to win one more game to take the match. The third game went without any glitches and Jen and Vincent took the game and the match, winning their mix in two sets and giving Kilcullen the match 3-0. Well done John, Jen, Siobhan and Vincent on a fantastic performance

John Mullen was out playing again on Wednesday 1 November, this time with his Division 5 Mens team who travelled to An Caislain Nua in their first round Dublin District Cup match. This match turned out to be a close affair with John and the men winning the match on sets. John, Enda O’Neill, Vincent Coller and Ray Dalton now wait to see who they will play in the next round of the Cup. The quartet also start their Dublin District League Campaign next Friday with an away match to Viking, so good luck to the lads.

Kasi and the Division 7 Men played their first DDL match on Thursday 3 November against Raheny. It was a fantastic start to the league for the lads who won 4-0 in this away fixture. Well done to Kasi, Ben Phelan, Oisin Egan and Ross Cole on a great start to their League.

Martin Carrigian and his Division 4 Mens team also started their DDL with an away match to Roundwood. The KBC men came away with a respectable 2-2 draw in this closely contested mens match. It looks like the lads are starting the league in the same fashion as they did last season with a draw, and as he said himself he ‘hopes they can break the voodoo of draws this season’. On the bright side, an away draw is as good result so well done to Martin, Owen Wallace, Mick Cass and Barry O’Neill.

Finally, in the South West League Owen Wallace played his last match against Carlow YM in the Grade 3 Mens A before the knock out stages. Owen and the lads beat their counterparts in a hard fought match 4-2. This win ensures the two Kilcullen Grade 3 Mens teams will avoid each other in the semi final. Well done Owen, Mick Cass, Michael Carrigian and Barry O’ Neill. The Grade 3 Mens A team will now play Kildare in their semi final, good luck to Owen and his team.
