Unique meeting with councillors, TDs, tonight

At least seven public representatives have committed to be in Kilcullen Town Hall this evening for a public meeting at which local issues will be discussed, writes Brian Byrne. It’s a very rare opportunity for the public to meet and address their local councillors and TDs at one time and in one space where the sole topic is local concerns.

More than 60 issues under nine headings have been notified to those coming, by the organising Kilcullen Community Action/Tidy Towns group, to help streamline the meeting, which begins at 8pm.

Among the matters notified are the sewage odour along Main Street, the poor overall condition of footpaths, parking, safe school access at Castlemartin, the need for another pedestrian crossing, shop front signage, residential estate issues, a change back to bark mulch in the playground, and elements of the Local Area Plan.

The last time there were so many local representatives here was prior to the local elections in 2014, when nine councillors and would-be councillors attended a Town Meeting, again called by KCA, to lay out their attitudes and policies in relation to Kilcullen.
