Kildare portrait artist of the year 2016 competition.

On Culture Weekend 2016, following the great success of The Kildare Portrait Artist of the Year 2015 competition, a second competition is being held, writes Federica Petronilli of the Culture Night & National Playday programme under the auspices of Kildare County Council.

The competition this time will take place in Newbridge Town Hall on Saturday 17 September between 12pm-4pm. It involves artists painting a portrait of a celebrity model over a three-hour period with a 15-minute break after each hour. The public will be invited to watch as the paintings progress.

The artists can use any medium of their choice but this does not include photography. This competition is open to all artists over 16 years of age.

The artists will be evaluated by a panel of three judges, well-known personalities from the arts sector. The winner’s portrait will be chosen by the panel and the sitters will also choose their favourite painting to take home as a print.

To enter this competition artists should submit a portrait (maximum size 40cmx50cm) painted in the last 12 months. Closing date is Thursday 25 August at 4pm.
