Dog poo problem

A significant issue with 'dog poo' was raised at the recent meeting of Kilcullen Community Action, writes Brian Byrne.

Ray Kelly noted that during the Litter Picking Weekend, and indeed before it, he became aware that many dog owners are complying with the requirement to pick up their dogs' dirt and bag it, but then they dump the bags by the roadside.

"You find the bags in the ditches, and hanging from branches in the bushes," he said, and added that at one location a barrel (above) originally used to protect a gateway had become full of bags of animal excreta.

Noel Clare said it was also an issue at the back of the Heritage Centre.

Dog owners in the Kilcullen area are asked to desist from such practices and take the bags home for disposal through their own resources.
