Daylight robbery in Kilcullen

A daylight mugging in Kilcullen yesterday afternoon highlighted the vulnerability of people using the ATM outside Bank of Ireland, writes Brian Byrne.

A man in his 70s was accosted by two younger men as he was taking money from the ATM at around 2.45pm, and a significant sum of money was taken from him.

It's understood that the thieves had driven by in a car before the incident, but as yet there are no details available as to the make of car or description of the robbers.

Gardai are investigating the incident.

Bank of Ireland has recently curtailed counter services in favour of making customers use ATM machines for withdrawals and lodgements.
