Moon & Sixpence for Maintain Hope

A performance by The Moon and Sixpence group in September will raise funds for Maintain Hope, writes Brian Byrne.

The group, which was formed in 1997, last performed in Kilcullen in 2011 as a fundraiser for Kilcullen Lions.

The original lineup included the late Des Byrne of The Hideout, solicitor John Reidy, doctor Michael O'Connell, insurance agent Michael McCarthy and Siobhan Hurley, proprietor of the Coffee Cabin in Newbridge.

The membership changed down the years, and recently the band has been quiet. But they have raised many thousands of euros for a variety of charities over the decades since they were founded.

Gerry O'Donoghue, founder of Maintain Hope which supports an orphanage and schools in Kenya, says he's delighted that the group is getting together again for the charity.
