Spring equinox next weekend
The Spring Equinox this year falls on next weekend, 21 March, and weather permitting will offer extraordinary dawn views of the rising sun through the Spear monument at the Dun Ailinne Interpretive Park, writes Brian Byrne.
The Spear was created by local artist Noel Scullion and is a highly technical interpretation based on a spear head found during excavations at the Dun Ailinne archaeological site back in the 1960s.
The monument was commissioned by Kilcullen Community Action, which developed the Interpretive Park.
If it is a clear morning, the sun effect can be seen for a period from around 6.15am. The option is there over a number of mornings before and after the actual equinox.
