Nichola sponsored frisbees in Dubai

There was a Kilcullen connection to the 2015 World Championships of Beach Ultimate held in Dubai last week, writes Brian Byrne.

Our local optician Nichola Kennedy sponsored the sports kit of Naas woman Carrie O'Brien, who competed in the competition in a mixed nationality team called Currier Island.

Carrie got involved in the flying disc (frisbees) competitive scene in UCC, and joined the Currier Island team after raising funds for the Headstrong mental health charity.

The Currier group are a tradition in the World Championships, inviting players from all over the world. They don't for medals, but did win the 'Spirit' award in the Open Masters event.

More than 1,100 players from 71 teams competed in the week-long event, with some 380 games played at the Jumeirah Beach Residences resort.
