Council to recommence taking in charge

Kildare County Council is planning to recommence the taking in charge of estates from 1 November 2014, writes Brian Byrne.

The matter will apply to estates where a majority or residents have requested taking in charge, and where there are no implications from any related bonds.

The Council says it will begin the process even if the Irish Water protocols are not in place, and will be restricted to those elements of infrastructure to which the authority is still empowered to take in charge.

The matter was raised by Cllr Billy Hillis, who requested by motion that the Hillcrest and Cnoc na Greine estates in Kilcullen be taken in charge due to 'ongoing issues' and the non-working public lights.

(Lights in the Cnoc na Greine estates were repaired last week following pressure from councillors led by Cllr Rob Power.)
