Downtown Kilcullen, c1950

The latest picture submitted to the Kilcullen Gathering Heritage Collection is this one of Lower Main Street, provided by Harry Smith of Sunnyhill, who is back in Kilcullen on holiday from his home in Coventry.

It comes via Jim Collins, and shows the town in or around 1950. Note on the right a sign for Dr Connolly’s Dispensary and also the wire on the top of the Ball Alley.

On the left are Texaco petrol pumps and a sign for Brennans, Main Dealers for Ferguson tractors.

Alice Coleman had not arrived in Kilcullen, but next door to what became her guest house is Floods, and then May Brennan’s Grocery shop.
