More discussion on 'problems' development

How Kildare County Council deals with the remaining problems relating to the commercial development beside The Hideout 'will be interesting', according to Kilcullen Community Development chairman Kieron Forde.

kieranfordeHe made the comment during a discussion at a recent meeting of KCA on the development, which has been the subject of an Enforcement Letter from the Planning Department of Kildare County Council.

J J Warren told the meeting that the Council was in agreement with KCA's assessment on seven of the nine points of variance from the original planning permission which he had previously detailed. He added that the development had been a 'blatant' disregarding of the permission granted.

"If it is allowed to remain, it will be the biggest eyesore ever to hit the town," he said.

The discussion on the development noted how the developer had closed up unauthorised windows facing onto the neighbouring filling station, following submissions by KCA and the filling station owner Josephine Byrne.

J J Warren suggested the fact of another planning application by turf accountants Ladbrokes on the development had influenced the rapid action by the owner, as it couldn't be progressed while a dispute remained on the original planning file.

Remaining variances to be dealt with on the development include an unauthorised balcony, a roof and eaves which are up to three metres higher than permitted, and a facade which is not compatible with the adjoining building and streetscape.
